Football and beer

I sit here at the home of a close friend watching the Apple Cup. As We cheer for one team over the other disregarding the fact that they are from the same state I silently sip on a 12oz Killian. I don't particularly care much for football but seeing as everyone I know is here and the beer is free I reluctantly accompanied the group.

At the end of the second quarter though I find myself a few beers in and suddenly very interested in what is happening on the field. What is this transformation? Am I suddenly a football fan? Do I have inexplicable pride for two teams I previously knew nothing about? Nah must be the beer. Suddenly all the beer commercials constantly playing during football games makes perfect sense. The assumption isn't that football fans like beer but in actuality the beer is pushed on the viewer to help them cope with the boring sport. Well played ad men.

Genderless

Today I read an article about a couple, who in an attempt to apparently allow their child a life completely of there his/her own design, have decided to keep the childs gender unannounced until said child chooses to share it.

"I believe that it puts restrictions on this particular baby so that in this culture this baby will be a singular person who is not being given an opportunity to find their true gender self, based on also what’s inside them."

I am all for a person being judged based on actions and merit can can completely understand allowing the child to decide whom they are but attempting to keep the child completely unknowing of any sort of traditional gender role also keeps them ignorant of the general world.
